Venice calls themselves the sport fishing capital of the world. At least, our spot in Cypress Cove Marina said so. While I can’t confirm if that’s true or not, I can tell you the fishing there is epic! We caught sooo many blackfin tuna our first day out that we started throwing them back. 🤣This day’s agenda turned out to be dozens of blackfin tuna, a couple bonita, an encounter with a Blacktip shark, and a missed chance at a Yellowfin (we got ’em the next day though). Overall, a fun day of fishing from start to finish❗️
My Venice Fishing Tips
- First thing you need to do upon landing in New Orleans? Go to Commander’s Palace of course! Fine dining with southern cuisine to get you ready for nonstop fishing.
- Make sure you’ve found a knowledgeable charter captain or local guide as they should know where the tuna “lump” is during your adventure. We had Captain Blake Rigby and first mate Heidi Hill taking us out.
- Keep your lines in the water, your eyes on each rod, and your body ready to spring into action as the bite will be HOT in Springtime. 🔥
- Identify the fish species you are after! Not only is the offshore fishing great in Venice, but the inshore fishing is excellent as well. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to do a day of both.
